We thought that it was only right to give some blog coverage to our Senior Product Manager, Daniel Remedios, on his athleticism and dedication to the Brighton half-marathon. Through blood, sweat and tears (and the occasional rant in the office), he trained tirelessly for weeks to ensure he could complete the 13.1 mile run on behalf of the Chestnut Tree House Foundation.
At the beginning of the year, we all wrote down our New Year’s Resolutions and Daniel wrote down the Brighton half-marathon. For a while, we thought it may be a joke as his favourite delicacy ranged from Wahacca’s burritos to Dairy Milk’s finest. However, a few days later, he was in the gym, working towards a huge achievement.
The whole team got behind him during his training regime, (aside from offering him endless sugared donuts and cups of coffee) because we wanted him to know that we were in full support of what he was hoping to achieve.
Getting sponsored for anything is notoriously hard so we rallied the team around to get Daniel to his magic number – £250. Soon enough, his JustGiving
page was littered with messages of encouragement from the Ebsta family. We were more than happy to help Daniel raise funds for the wonderful work of the Chestnut Tree House Foundation.
When the famous Brighton half-marathon day arrived, some of us headed down to Brighton to stand along the side-lines waving ‘Go Dan’ signs or simply clapping him on his way.
On the start line, the wind had become blustery and the clouds had begun to blanket the then darkened sky but everyone was in high spirits. When the whistle blew, Daniel was nowhere to be seen because in true style, he was an unfortunate 20 minutes late. He sprinted his way past the Ebsta gang and sauntered off into the distance, leaving us hoping that he would be back before sunset.
Reaching the Finish Line
Much like a professional long-distance runner, Daniel crossed the finish line after 2 hours, 4 minutes and 33 seconds. It wasn’t quite an Olympic time but it was incredible for an inexperienced, technology-loving Product guy who had less than 2 months to prepare.
From the whole of the Ebsta family, in the equally darkened sky in London and across the Atlantic in San Diego, well done! We salute you.
